Football: Jordanian player, 19, dies during game - club
AMMONNEWS - A 19-year-old footballer with Jordan's Al-Faisaly youth club collapsed and died during a match on Sunday, the club said.
Qusai Emad al-Khawalda died from lack of oxygen after swallowing his tongue during the first half of the match with Al-Jazeera in Amman, Faisaly official Ihab al-Khalili told AFP.
He said teammates tried to revive Khawalda as they waited for an ambulance to arrive, to no avail.
'Our club regrets this death and conveys its condolences to his family and loved ones,' said Faisaly director Ahmed al-Adwan.
He added that the club would be looking into why the paramedics took so long to answer the emergency call.
The club has postponed its next match out of respect for Khawalda' family.
Two years ago, Faisaly goalkeeper Zibn al-Khawalda, was killed in a road accident. Both players were from the same extended family and the same village, in Jordan's northern Mafraq province.
