Arab ministers voice their support for Jordan's candidacy UN Security Council seat
PETRA- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh participated on Wednesday in a meeting of the Arab Peace Initiative Committee, held on the sidelines of the 3rd Arab-African Summit, currently underway in Kuwait.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas briefed the committee on the latest developments in the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks and the obstacles facing these as a result of the unilateral Israeli actions, mainly the settlement and provocative actions in Jerusalem.
Judeh said that Jordan is keen to realize the two-state solution, which envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and solve the final status issues.
The Israeli unilateral actions in Jerusalem and its holy sites not only violate international laws, but also threaten the peace process, Judeh told the meeting.
Jordan, he affirmed, will spare no effort to stand up to the Israeli violations in East Jerusalem and its holy places.
The committee issued a statement in which it reiterated the need to continue negotiations and also held Israel responsible for such negotiations faltering along the way because of its unilateral actions in the occupied Palestinian lands.
During the meeting, Judeh discussed with his Arab counterparts Jordan's request for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for 2014-2015, following the Saudi Kingdom's rejection of the seat.
Jordan's seat, he affirmed, will be for all Arab countries.
The Arab ministers voiced their support for Jordan's candidacy and said they were confident that Jordan will defend Arab interests and humanitarian values.
