Queen Rania celebrates her birthday with her eyes on education
AMMAN (Petra)Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah will celebrate her birthday tomorrow, August 31st, after another year working to improve the caliber and quality of education for children in Jordan.
Throughout the year, Queen Rania visited many schools in different governorates across the kingdom to witness firsthand the work and accomplishments carried out by schools in cooperation with educational-related organizations Her Majesty established over the course of the last 14 years.
Since becoming Queen, Her Majesty always believed that education is the number one and most important equalizer between individuals of different backgrounds and families and that schools are more than just buildings. And to this extent, she has established solid foundations to improve and reform the three elements of the education process; schools, teachers, and students, and help provide children in Jordan with top-tier education.
On an international level, and in recognition of her efforts in global education, Her Majesty was selected in 2012 as a member of U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon's High-level Panel (HLP) which was formed to advise on the global development agenda beyond 2015, the target date for the expiry of the current set of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In May 2013, Queen Rania attended in New York the official handover of the panel's final report.
Apart from traditional media, Queen Rania also uses social media not only to share her personal interests, but also to social change through advocating for global causes and mobilizing people behind them. With the twitter handle @QueenRania, the tech savvy Queen was ranked number 7 in a list of most followed international leaders published recently by 'Mashable'.
Her Majesty also uses her online presence to reach out to the global community, promote cross cultural dialogue and foster greater understanding and tolerance across the world. Through her Facebook fan page and her YouTube channel, the Queen created a space where people can freely discuss misconceptions the East and the West have about each other.
Queen Rania is the mother of four children HRH Crown Prince Hussein, HRH Princess Iman, HRH Princess Salma, and HRH Prince Hashem.
