509 crimes, 12 clashes, 9 deaths during Eid holiday: PSD
AMMONNEWS - The Public Security Department (PSD) announced that its cadres dealt with a total of 509 crimes that occurred during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which began on Thursday, citing that police managed to arrest and detain the majority of the crime perpetrators.
In a statement published by the PSD Media office, the kingdom witnessed 12 incidents of clashes, ranging between group and individual disputes and fights, which led to a number of injuries.
Meanwhile, 9 people were killed in the past three days, and 131 were injured in traffic accidents. PSD said that it dealt with 725 traffic accidents, including 32 cases of cars running over children.
The statement noted that vital streets in the capital Amman and key cities witnessed major traffic jams, particularly in the evening hours, citing that its cadres and traffic police worked to facilitate traffic around the clock during the Eid holiday.
PSD also noted that all prisons and Correctional and Rehabilitation Centers facilitated family visits to inmates during the Eid holiday.
The facilities recorded 19,554 visits to inmates.
The statement added that Correction and Rehabilitation Centers' administrations also facilitated special family visits for elderly, special needs, and good behavior inmates, including inmates who passed the Tawjihi (Secondary School General Certificate examination).
The special visits aimed to reinforce and reward good behavior in inmates in part of the rehabilitation and corrections efforts.
613 inmates in 13 different prisons benefitted from the special visits facilitated by the prison administrations, the PSD statement added.
