MPs blast ex-Royal Court Chief's "economic transformation" era
AMMONNEWS - Members of the Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday blasted the 'economic transformation program' which launched in the past decade, accusing its team of 'squandering Jordan's economy.'
MP Amjad al-Majali criticized the initiatives of what he dubbed 'neo-liberals,' accusing the influential head of the program of squandering the funds of the Social Security Administration.
In reference to former Royal Court chief Bassem Awadallah, Majali accused the chief of the Economic Transformation program of trying to also invest in the controversial nuclear reactor program currently being prepared for in Jordan.
On his part, veteran MP Abdul Karim Dughmi blasted the Investment Unit at the Social Security Administration, citing its failed investment endeavors.
'These are the thoughts of the failed 'digitals,' Dughmi said, accusing them of squandering public funds while they accusing the likes of Dughmi of being 'counter-forces.'
He cited the failed investment projects in the Mafraq Development Zone, describing it as a 'failed project.'
Also on Tuesday, MP Mohammad Qatatsheh blasted former Royal Court Chief Bassem Awadallah for failed policies while the latter held the posts of Minister of Planning and Minister of Finance.
Qatatsheh considered that Awadallah's Economic Transformation Program team opened the door wide for corruption and squandering of Jordan's economy through the initiatives of the 'digitals,' a term used to describe proponents of liberalization of the Jordanian economy in the past decade.
MP Khalil Attiyah, however, criticized the MPs who called for dismantling the Investment Unit, citing instead that the unit bore good investments.
