AMMAN (Petra) The Turkish Embassy in Amman organized a charity dinner last night in cooperation with Turkish Yunus Emre Cultural Center to mark Youth Day in Turkey and raise funds for Syrian refugees in Jordan.
Speaking during the ceremony, Turkish Ambassador in Amman Sedat Onal said the charity event was scheduled to coincide with the occasion of Youth Day, which is officially celebrated by the Republic of Turkey on May 19.
The Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day is an annual Turkish national holiday celebrated on May 19 to commemorate Mustafa Kemal's arrival in Samsun on May 19, 1919, which is regarded as the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence in the official historiography.
The ambassador said the event aims to raise funds for Syrian refugees in Jordan, adding that it was initiated by a group of Jordanian and Turkish women in the Kingdom to ease the suffering of displaced Syrians.
Onal pointed out that Jordan is hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees and providing them with basic necessities, despite its limited resources and economic hardships.
He also praised the strong ties and coordination between Jordan and Turkey at various levels.
