Jordan calls for urgent meeting of Arab League Council
CAIRO (Petra) – Jordan has called for an urgent meeting of the Council of the Arab League to discuss repeated Israeli assaults on al-Aqsa Mosque and in occupied Jerusalem.
Jordan's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Bishr Khasawneh, delivered the Kingdom's message to the General Secretariat of the League.
The Israeli forces’ attacks on al-Aqsa mosque, al-Harm al-Sharif compound and east Jerusalem are part of a series of repeated and condemnable violations against the Palestinian people, according to Jordan.
The Kingdom affirmed that such attacks were in serious violation of international law and international humanitarian law and were a clear breach of the duties of Israel, which is the occupying power in east Jerusalem.
Khasawneh noted that Jordan's request reiterated and supported the Palestinian request to hold a meeting to discuss Israeli violations against religious places in east Jerusalem, where His Majesty King Abdullah enjoys the status of the custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem. This status was recently reaffirmed through a historic agreement signed by His Majesty the King and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
