JUST denies US training for chemical weapons on campus
AMMONNEWS - The Jordan University for Science and Technology (JUST) denied on Wednesday reports that US military officials are conducting training on dealing with chemical weapons to Jordanian officials on its campus.
Media reports had said that US military forces are conducting joint training operations between US military officials and their Jordanian counterparts on handling the threat of Syrian chemical weapons inside the JUST campus, located in Ramtha, by the northern Jordanian-Syrian border.
JUST Public Affairs spokesperson Muhannad Malkawi denied the reports, describing them as 'untrue and baseless.'
The reports come after last month's announcement by US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel that the Pentagon will send 200 US soldiers to Jordan to replace other units that have been in Jordan for some time.
The United States had repeatedly voiced its concern that Syria would use its chemical weapons, or that radical opposition groups fighting in neighboring Syria would get their hands on the chemical weapons, threatening the security of the region and US interests.
