AMMONNEWS - Southern Amman Public Prosecutor on Saturday ordered the detention of former Member of Parliament and current candidate running in the parliamentary elections Ghazi Elayyan over charges of vote-buying and use of political money.
Elayyan was a representative in Amman's second district in the 16th parliament.
The candidate faces charges of vote-buying and use of political money to influence voters, in accordance with article 63 A of the 2012 Elections Law, less than a week before the parliamentary elections scheduled for Wednesday, January 23, 2013.
Ammon News learned that the Preventative Security Department questioned Elayyan on Friday, and referred his case to the Public Prosecutor.
Elayyan was ordered arrested and detained for 15 days pending investigation into the charges.
