Candidate questioned over political money, Complaints of GAM aid in campaigning
AMMONNEWS - The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) referred complaints it received to the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), accusing some candidates of exploiting GAM equipment and utilities in their campaigning.
IEC called on GAM to abide by the 2012 Elections law which prohibits public institutions of supporting any candidate or aiding in campaign advertisement.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor in Madaba Court subpoenaed a candidate running in the upcoming parliamentary elections and questioned him in charges of vote-buying and use of public money and bribes, Ammon News learned.
Judicial sources reported that the court ordered the detention of the candidate 15 days pending investigation into the allegations.
The court decision comes less than a week before the parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.
Courts in Amman and Mafraq governorates had also ordered the detention of two candidates earlier this week in charges of vote-buying.
