'Stop Uprooting Trees in Palestine' Slogan at COP18 in Doha

AMMONNEWS - Doha - In part of the ongoing activities at the Climate Conference currently being held in Doha, Qatar, hundreds of Arab participant and others took part in a rally addressing climate concerns, raising posters against the uprooting of olive trees in the occupied Palestinian territories by Israeli authorities and Jewish settlers.
'Trees sustain the lives of People .... Stop uprooting trees in Palestine' a campaign slogan carried by an Arab youth climate activist.
21- year old Ibrahim Salem, an environmental activist and member of the Arab Youth Climate Movement said that the march aims to send environmental and political massages to the world leaders.
'Each time Israelis uproot an olive tree as if they uproot Palestinians from their lands' he said.
19-year old Salma from Egypt, and 20-year old Amenah from Algeria, arrived in Doha to partake in the environmental demonstration, also aiming to pressure Arab leaders to pledge to reduce gas emission, especially greenhouse gas emissions (carbon dioxide and other) that reportedly have an impact on global warming.
According to official Palestinian statistics, since early 2012, settlers cut and burnt more than 7,000 olive trees in Palestine, a statistic recently was recognized by the United Nations.
Several hundred demonstrators chanted slogans calling on world leaders to reduce greenhouse gases, and equality as a slogan 'Save the Future' your act means our survival.'
It is noted that this event is the first in Doha as the demonstrations and rallies in Qatar are unlawful, according to Qatari laws .
Under the banner 'Arabs ..Time to Lead,' the global activists marched a few kilometers in Doha nearby Kurnish area, with noticeable participation of a number of UN organizations, Arab, and African environmental bodies.
The march is reported to have been orchestrated and planned by the Qatari government in cooperation with international NGOs, with youth activists from 16 Arab countries invited to partake in the march are housed in the luxurious 5-star Crown Plaza Hotel.
