King to open third ordinary parliamentary session on Monday
His Majesty King Abdullah II will inaugurate the third ordinary session of the Parliament on Monday, November 2, 2026, with the delivery of the Royal Speech from the Throne.
The Royal Speech from the Throne outlines key national policies and major regional issues, highlighting development plans, domestic policies, and the deeply rooted core values of the Jordanian state.
His Majesty will head to the House of Representatives aboard the Red Motorcade, wearing the Royal Ceremonial Attire, both of which are longstanding royal traditions marking the opening of Parliament.
The Red Motorcade consists of 20 classic open-top, four-wheel-drive Land Rover vehicles belonging to the Royal Hashemite Court, accompanied by 10 red motorcycles.
The vehicles carry 71 members of the Royal Guard, dressed in official military uniforms, wearing red keffiyehs and agals bearing the insignia of the Arab Army, along with red sashes across their chests.
His Majesty wears the Royal Ceremonial Attire on only two occasions: the first is the anniversary of his accession to the throne, and the second is when delivering the Royal Speech from the Throne.
The ceremonial attire comes in two colors, black and white. His Majesty wears black during winter and white during summer.
Following the Royal Speech, the Senate will convene to complete the procedures for selecting its two deputy presidents and their assistants.
The Senate will also elect a committee tasked with drafting the official response to the Royal Speech from the Throne, which will subsequently be submitted to His Majesty in accordance with constitutional procedures.
A House of Representatives session will follow, during which members will select the Speaker, either through a ballot or by consensus, with a single candidate elected unopposed.
Four MPs have announced their intention to run for the speakership: Dr. Ibrahim Tarawneh, nominated by the Mithaq Bloc; Majham Sqour, a member of the Mithaq Bloc; Dr. Mustafa Khasawneh, nominated by the Mubadara Party Bloc; and Dr. Suleiman Zeben, nominated by the Centrist Parties and Reform Bloc.
Following the selection of the Speaker, the House of Representatives will complete the formation of its Permanent Bureau by electing the two deputy speakers and their assistants.
The House will then appoint its own committee to draft the response to the Royal Speech, following the same procedure as the Senate.
