LTRC considers allowing 2023-model vehicles to replace yellow taxis
Jordan's Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) is considering a proposal to allow 2023-model vehicles to replace yellow taxis by extending the eligible model-year range by three years, in a bid to accelerate fleet modernization in 2026.
The proposal was discussed during a coordination meeting held Monday, chaired by LTRC Director General Riyad Kharabsheh, to explore ways to improve yellow taxi services and working conditions for operators and drivers.
The meeting examined possible amendments to regulations governing the model years of vehicles eligible for replacement and modernization, including allowing vehicles manufactured in 2023 to enter service.
Participants also agreed to form a joint committee between the commission and the union to follow up on the issues raised and address differences over competing transport services, including limousines, intercity transport, ride-hailing apps and shared taxis.
The committee will work toward practical proposals aimed at ensuring fair competition, improving coordination between transport services and enhancing the quality of service provided to passengers.
