Traffic Department: 2,700 vehicles inspected in winter campaign since morning
The number of vehicles inspected as part of Jordan’s winter road safety campaign has reached 2,700 since the campaign began on Sunday morning, Director of the Traffic Department at the Public Security Directorate, Brig. Gen. Raed Al-Assaf, said.
Speaking to Al-Mamlaka TV, Al-Assaf said the campaign has seen cooperation from citizens, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of such traffic safety in initiatives.
The Public Security Directorate (PSD) launched its winter traffic campaign on Sunday to ensure vehicles are roadworthy during the winter season, reduce traffic accidents, protect the lives of citizens and road users, and provide a safer road environment.
The campaign is being carried out by the traffic departments and the Royal Department for Environmental Protection, with the participation of technical teams from the Maintenance Department. It aims to assess vehicle readiness, verify their technical condition for safe travel during winter, and ensure their ability to cope with unusual weather conditions.
Inspections cover key vehicle components, including tires, lights, windows, windshield wipers, and engine coolant. Authorities will also check heating systems in public transport vehicles, as well as other components, to ensure that no defects or missing equipment compromise vehicle roadworthiness or the safety of road users during winter.
If a technical defect affecting vehicle safety is identified, the owner will be issued a notice without a traffic fine and given one week to rectify the defect and address any outstanding safety requirements.
