Cargo truck carrying 21 passengers stopped on Airport Road
Jordan’s External Patrols Department stopped a cargo vehicle on Airport Road over the past 24 hours after it was found transporting 21 passengers in its rear cargo compartment, while also responding to two truck rollover accidents on the Safawi–Ruwaished and Azraq–Safawi roads.
Captain Mahdi Al-Hamoud, an operations officer with the External Patrols Department, said Monday that the vehicle was stopped for using a cargo truck to transport passengers, contrary to its intended purpose. He stressed that carrying 21 people in the truck bed posed a serious safety risk and could result in injuries or fatalities in the event of an accident.
Legal action was taken against the driver, while patrol officers arranged alternative transportation for the passengers using a public transport vehicle.
In a separate incident during the early morning hours, a cargo truck rolled over on the Safawi–Ruwaished road near the Ashqaf Security Station. The vehicle came to rest off the roadway, and only material damage was reported.
At 4:30 a.m., another cargo truck overturned on the Azraq–Safawi road before Tal Al-Hassan Security Station. The crash left one person moderately injured and transported to Azraq Medical Center. The vehicle was also outside the roadway at the time of the accident.
