Jordan condemns settler incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the continued incursions by extremist Israeli settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, including the latest incident that took place today, as well as the provocative actions carried out by extremists. The ministry described these actions as a blatant violation of the historic and legal status quo at the holy site, a desecration of its sanctity, and accompanied by inflammatory and escalatory statements from extremist Israeli officials.
The ministry’s official spokesperson, Ambassador Fuad Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of the repeated incursions by extremist settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the accompanying provocative acts. He said these actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and represent unacceptable incitement aimed at imposing new realities at the holy site through attempts to divide it temporally and spatially. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its holy sites.
Majali warned of the consequences of the continued violations, provocations, and inflammatory statements, calling on the international community to take a firm stance and compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt all irresponsible practices and ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, cease illegal measures in the occupied West Bank, and stop incitement against the Palestinian people.
He also reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety covering 144 dunums, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the sole legal authority responsible for administering all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and regulating access to the site.
