U.S. Vice President: Iran cannot build a nuclear weapon
U.S. Vice President JD Vance told Newsmax on Monday that Iran cannot build a nuclear weapon in the near term following U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities, but President Donald Trump's goal is to prevent Tehran from rebuilding its program years into the future.
'Could Iran build a nuclear weapon tomorrow if they tried? No. Could Iran build a nuclear weapon in six months or a year if they tried? No,' Vance said.
Vance said U.S. forces destroyed three Iranian nuclear facilities and described preventing Iran from rebuilding as the second stage of the administration's effort.
'What the president of the United States is trying to ensure is they don't have the resources and they don't have the infrastructure to rebuild,' Vance said.
'So two years from now, three years from now, 10 years from now, they continue to not be able to build a nuclear weapon.'
Vance also blamed Iran for higher fuel prices, pointing to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping.
