Traffic Department urges road safety compliance over weekend
Jordan's Traffic Department on Thursday urged motorists and pedestrians to adhere to traffic rules, right-of-way regulations, and the instructions of traffic officers during the weekend.
Captain Mohammad Al-Droubi, an officer at the Traffic Department's operations room, said compliance with traffic regulations helps enhance road safety and maintain smooth traffic flow.
Al-Droubi explained that the primary objective of traffic management is to ensure the safety of all road users, including pedestrians, drivers, and passengers, from the moment they begin their journey until they reach their destination.
He added that achieving road safety is a shared responsibility that requires adherence to traffic rules and priorities, including maintaining a safe following distance, wearing seat belts, and observing speed limits.
Al-Droubi warned against exceeding speed limits, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when roads are less congested, stressing that higher speeds reduce driver concentration and vehicle control while increasing the likelihood of accidents.
He noted that the Traffic Department continues to regulate traffic movement, provide guidance to road users, monitor conditions through its control room, and manage lane allocations at traffic signals according to traffic density.
He also emphasized the importance of staying in designated lanes, especially near bridges, tunnels, and traffic-light zones, noting that lane discipline helps prevent accidents and improves traffic flow.
Al-Droubi called on the public to follow traffic rules and comply with instructions issued by officers in the field, affirming that the Traffic Department remains available around the clock to receive and address public observations and reports.
