Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan on Sunday inaugurated a natural gas station in the Al-Quweira Industrial City in Aqaba as part of a government strategy aimed at reducing energy costs in industrial cities and clusters across the Kingdom by 35–60 percent.

The cost of constructing the natural gas station in Al-Quweira Industrial City reached nearly JD 8 million. Its initial capacity is 30,000 cubic meters per day, expandable to 90,000 cubic meters per day.

The project is part of a series of government measures and decisions designed to support Jordan’s national industry, which continues to record growing export figures, while also enhancing the Kingdom’s competitiveness in attracting new investments.

Al-Quweira Industrial City has been developed over an area of 1,800 dunums, with implementation beginning in 2023 under a joint development agreement between the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), and PBI. Infrastructure works for the first phase, covering more than 300 dunums, have been completed, along with the construction of a pressure measurement and reduction station connected to the Arab Gas Pipeline and the natural gas network, with a capacity exceeding 90,000 cubic meters per hour and a total cost of JD 25 million.

Also, the Prime Minister inaugurated a natural gas station in the Southern Industrial Zone in Aqaba, aimed at supporting national industries in industrial cities and zones while reducing their energy costs.

The project to supply industries in the Southern Industrial Zone with natural gas was completed in approximately 10 months at a cost of JD 3.5 million, after the Prime Minister laid its foundation stone in September of last year. The project had originally been expected to take 18 months to complete.

The initiative to supply industrial cities with natural gas is a strategic project designed to support national industry, enhance the competitiveness of Jordan’s economy, attract investment, increase exports, and promote environmental sustainability. It also contributes to economic growth and job creation in line with the objectives of the Economic Modernization Vision.

The two natural gas stations in Al-Quweira and the industrial complex will provide factories in Aqaba with clean and sustainable energy, helping national industries strengthen their competitiveness, expand operations, reduce production costs, and attract new investments.
