Industry Ministry: Jordan’s wheat reserves sufficient for 10 months
The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply said that the Kingdom's strategic stocks of wheat and barley are available at secure levels, providing sufficient coverage for domestic consumption for several months.
According to ministry data, the Kingdom’s current wheat reserves stand at 674,000 tonnes, while additional contracted quantities totaling 300,000 tonnes are currently being shipped to Jordan. The combined quantities will provide wheat supplies sufficient to cover domestic consumption for up to 10.3 months.
The ministry added that barley stocks currently held in warehouses amount to 399,000 tonnes, enough to meet local demand for 4.6 months. In addition, contracted barley supplies totaling 404,000 tonnes will provide a further 4.6 months of coverage, bringing the total period covered by barley reserves to 9.2 months.
The ministry confirmed that it continues to issue regular tenders for the purchase of wheat and barley according to international quality standards, as part of its efforts to support national food security and maintain stable supplies through strategic reserves.
