Jordanian national team striker Ali Alwan has been named 'Man of the Match' in the Jordan vs Austria game on Wednesday, in Group J of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Alwan earned the award after a standout performance, scoring Jordan’s equalizer in the 50th minute, becoming the first-ever Jordanian player to score in the FIFA World Cup finals.
Jordan opened their historic first World Cup appearance with a 3–1 defeat to Austria. Romano Schmid opened the scoring for Austria in the 20th minute, before Olwan levelled the match early in the second half.
Yazan Al-Arab scored an own goal in the 76th minute, before Austria’s Marko Arnautović extended the lead with a penalty in the 90+12th minute.
Al-Nashama now look to recover in their upcoming group matches against Algeria and Argentina.
