Digital ID on Sanad app officially approved, says director
Director of the Jordanian government’s 'Sanad' app, Mohammad Al-Bataykhi, confirmed on Saturday that the digital ID on the app has been officially recognized following the publication of the amended 2026 Civil Status Law in the Official Gazette.
In a Facebook post, Al-Bataykhi said the law explicitly states that digital IDs displayed on electronic applications approved by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship are legally equivalent to physical national ID cards for all purposes stipulated under the law and existing legislation.
Earlier, Jordan’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship said the Sanad app has continued to record rapid growth in user numbers, with more than 2.6 million citizens activating their digital identities, including over 600,000 new users since the beginning of 2026.
Article 2 of the amended law states that Article 39 of the original law has been revised by redesignating its existing text as Paragraph (A) and adding Paragraph (B), which reads:
1- The digital identity displayed on electronic applications approved by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship shall be recognized for all purposes stipulated in this law and the applicable legislation.
2- For the purposes of implementing the provisions of Clause (1), the term ‘digital identity’ means the electronic version of the national ID card.
