Fuel prices in Jordan expected to rise by 9–15 piasters in May: Expert
Energy Expert Hashem Aqel expected that fuel prices will rise in next month's pricing between 9-15 piasters, similar to the increases implemented by the government last month.
In a statement to 'Ammon News', Aqel said that the price of 90-octane gasoline is expected to rise by 9 piasters per liter, or 10%, and the price of 95-octane gasoline to rise by 15 piasters, or 12.5%.
Diesel price is expected to rise by 7.5 piaster per liter, or 10%, according to Aqel, while prices of kerosene and domestic gas cylinder will remained unchanged.
He explained that the state treasury subsidizes 150 fils per liter of 90-octane gasoline, 110 fils per liter of 95-octane gasoline, 450 fils per liter of diesel, and 470 fils per liter of kerosene.
He clarified that the government subsidizes gas cylinders by JD3.25 per cylinder to maintain the price at JD7, noting that these measures were implemented to mitigate the impact of rising global petroleum product prices on citizens and to help them bear the brunt of these increases.
He added that oil prices remain above $100 due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the resulting supply shortages in the markets.
