NEPCO confirms readiness to face upcoming weather depression
The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) announced that it has taken all necessary measures to ensure the continued reliability of the national electricity network as the Kingdom prepares for an approaching weather system expected to bring a sharp drop in temperatures and higher electricity demand.
NEPCO’s Chief Executive Officer, Sufian Batayneh, stated on Monday that the company has activated comprehensive contingency plans designed to address exceptional weather conditions and maintain an uninterrupted power supply nationwide. He stressed that these measures are aimed at safeguarding grid stability while maintaining high operational efficiency and service reliability.
Batayneh explained that preparatory works carried out in recent weeks included increasing the capacity of key substations, cleaning and maintaining insulators on transmission lines, and performing routine maintenance on transmission towers to enhance overall network resilience.
He added that NEPCO’s control and monitoring center, along with field crews across the country, are operating at full readiness to respond promptly to any technical issues that may arise as weather conditions worsen.
The company has also strengthened its ability to manage peak electrical loads through continuous inspection of transmission infrastructure and by implementing 24-hour shift systems at major substations, ensuring swift intervention in the event of emergencies.
Batayneh reaffirmed NEPCO’s commitment to applying its operational plans in line with international best practices, noting ongoing coordination with electricity distribution companies and relevant authorities to preserve the stability and security of Jordan’s power system. Petra
