Gold hovers near record high on US rate-cut bets, government shutdown
Gold prices edged higher on Thursday, hovering near the record high hit the day before, helped by expectations of further U.S. rate cuts this year and political uncertainty.
Spot gold was up 0.2% at $3,871.99 per ounce by 0632 GMT, but off Wednesday's all-time high of $3,895.09. U.S. gold futures for December delivery were flat at $3,896.70.
