The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, on Sunday appointed Rana Mohammad Khaled Obaidat as Director-General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), replacing Nizar Mhaidat, who was referred to retirement.

Prof. Rana M. Obaidat is a professor of pharmaceutical technology with extensive experience in pharmaceutical research, clinical trials, and academic leadership. She currently serves as the Director of the Pharmaceutical and Clinical Research Center at the University of Jordan and as the Director of the Scientific and Pharmaceutical Research Office at Jordan University Hospital.
With over two decades of experience, Dr. Obaidat has overseen more than 35 clinical trials in collaboration with international pharmaceutical sponsors, including multi-site, multicenter studies with a combined budget exceeding $6 million. Her work has contributed to the development of clinical research infrastructure and regulatory practices in Jordan.
She holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology and has served in several academic and administrative roles, including Vice Dean and Director of the Pharmaceutical Research Center at Jordan University of Science and Technology. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, registered two patents, and supervised more than 25 postgraduate theses in pharmaceutical sciences, with a focus on drug delivery systems, nanomedicine, and pharmaceutical formulation.
Dr. Obaidat is a certified Innovation Management Associate (GIMI Levels 1 and 2) and currently serves as the chair of the Innovation Management Team at Jordan University Hospital. She is a member of the U.S. Military HIV Research Program’s Safety Monitoring Committee.
She has been invited to speak at several national and international scientific events, including those organized by the WHO and JFDA.
In recognition of her contributions to scientific advancement and institutional development, she received the Prince El-Hassan Bin Talal Award for Scientific Excellence in 2020.
Her work reflects a strong commitment to public health, regulatory improvement, and the integration of innovation into pharmaceutical practice and policy.
