Nissan recalls nearly 80,000 vehicles for software issue
Nissan North America is recalling certain 2025 model year Frontier pickup trucks and Kicks crossover utility vehicles. When shifting into reverse, the center information display unit may display a blank screen. This condition renders the subject vehicles noncompliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 for all things rear visibility.
That would be a software logic error within the center information display unit, which leads to a communication error with the infotainment module. Faurecia is the supplier of the center information displays for the 2025 model year Nissan Frontier and Kicks for the US market, according to autoevolution website.
Nissan North America started looking into this matter on October 22, 2024, following a field report from a Kicks customer who experienced a blank screen at startup. The automaker collected the center information display unit for analysis, and successfully reproduced the report malfunction. Only when the supplier performed a hard reset were all functions restored.
Two more field reports were filed with Nissan North America through January 2025, and the subsequent investigations revealed that an intermittent communication error caused the screen to go blank. As expected, the remedy comes in the form of updated software for the center information display. The update will be performed at no charge to affected customers.
