Tourism Ministry lights christmas tree at Our Lady of the Mountain Church in Ajloun
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities lit the Christmas tree on Monday at the Church of Our Lady of the Mountain in Anjara, Ajloun Governorate.
'This occasion, celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of the Mountain, marks the lighting of the Christmas tree. It is an event filled with meanings of hope, love, and unity, sending a message of peace to the entire world and an open invitation to visit Jordan, the land of love and hospitality, so that this land remains a bridge for unity and tolerance among all peoples,' said Hisham Shakhatreh, Assistant Secretary-General for Financial and Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Tourism.
He added that Ajloun (northern Jordan) hosts and embraces two Christian pilgrimage sites recognized by global churches.
'We are lighting the Christmas tree at the Church of Our Lady of the Mountain, one of the recognized Christian pilgrimage sites, and one of the most important religious and tourist landmarks in the kingdom,' he continued, emphasizing the harmony and coexistence embodied by Ajloun and the town of Anjara, with both Muslims and Christians living together.
Shakhatreh also noted that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities works in all its activities to enhance the role of the tourism sector in the national economy and achieve sector sustainable growth due to its economic importance.
Father Youssef Rumsis remarked, 'We gather today to celebrate the lighting of the glorious Christmas tree, which reminds us of giving, and the celebration of love, peace, and tolerance.'
He added that 'Jordan is an exemplary model of coexistence, confirming that our unity is the secret to success,' and extended his thanks to His Majesty King Abdullah for his support in restoring the church's facilities.
