Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Ahmad Safadi, received a copy of the 20th annual human rights report for 2023 from Samar Haj Hassan, Chairperson of the National Center for Human Rights, on Sunday.
During a meeting at the House headquarters, Safadi commended the center’s role in assessing Jordan’s human rights status and emphasized that the House will 'thoroughly' examine the center’s reports.
Safadi highlighted the importance of the Public Freedoms and Human Rights Committee in studying the recommendations and monitoring observations in these reports, in alignment with Royal directives.
Safadi reiterated that human rights and public freedoms are 'top priorities' for the Lower House, which aims to enhance the Kingdom's human rights system and uphold the rule of law, as emphasized by His Majesty King Abdullah II. He stressed that the respect and application of the rule of law is fundamental to safeguarding citizens' rights and freedoms.
Meanwhile, Haj Hassan praised the 'strong' joint partnership, noting the two sides' collaboration in implementing the recommendations from the center’s reports.
She underscored that the human rights file has the ongoing support and follow-up of the King, contributing to the center's efforts to advance rights and freedoms in Jordan.
