Initial investigations showes elderly home fire was act of perpetrators, Minister says
Social Development Minister Wafaa Bani Mustafa said that preliminary investigations indicate that the fire that broke out on the first floor of a private elderly care center / White Family Association - Golden Age Home, was an act of perpetrators.
Bani Mustafa added on Friday morning that investigations are ongoing to find out the full reasons that led to the fire.
Civil defense and ambulance crews immediately evacuated all cases to hospitals, in addition to controlling the fire in the home.
The fire occurred at 3 a.m. on Friday, the minister said, adding that the deaths were all due to suffocation.
She added that all nursing homes are subject to fire alarm monitoring procedures.
Six residents died, five others were seriously injured and 55 were moderately injured in the fire, according to the Minister of Social Development.
