Ahmad Al Hyari- The volume of loans granted to women during the period 2018-2022 increased by about JD19 million, or 10.6%.
The number of the sector’s clients, as of the end of 2022, reached about 441,000 clients, including 351 female clients, who constituted 79.5% of the sector’s total clients.
The microfinance sector report issued by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and seen by Ammon, revealed that the value of loans obtained by women from the microfinance sector in 2022 reached JD199 million.
The percentage of loans granted to women decreased at the end of 2022 out of the total balance of the lending portfolio, reaching 63.2%, compared to 70% at the end of 2018.
The report also showed that the number of male borrowers from the microfinance sector in 2022 reached 90,000 clients, with a value of JD115 million.
The percentage of female borrowers declined during the period 2018-2022 to reach about 79.5% of the total number of borrowers as at the end of 2022, compared to 83% as at the end of 2018.
The share of loans granted to the individual category was the largest share of loans granted to clients in the sector, as it constituted about 82.8% of the total loan portfolio as at the end of 2022, with a value of JD260 million, while loans granted to micro-enterprises constituted about 10.9% and 6.5% of the sector’s total loan portfolio, respectively.
Despite the concentration of sector loans within the category of individual customers, according to the report, productive loans gained a larger share compared to consumer loans during the period 2018-2022, as productive loans constituted 69.9% of the total sector loan portfolio as at the end of 2022, with a value of JD220 million, compared to consumer loans withdrawn worth JD94 million in the same period.
The percentage of the loan portfolio that was overdue for more than 30 days was about 5.1% as of the end of 2022, and the percentage of bad debts out of the average total portfolio during the year 2022 was about 2.8%.
The capital, Amman, had the largest percentage of customers in the Central Region in particular and the Kingdom in general, as the percentage of customers in the capital, as at the end of the year 2022, reached about 51% at the level of the Central Region and about 30% at the level of the Kingdom.
The total assets of the microfinance sector witnessed a growth of 28% during the period 2018/2022, as the total assets of the sector at the end of last year amounted to about JD375 million, compared to about JD293 million recorded at the end of 2018.
The annual net profits of the microfinance sector amounted to about JD20 million for the year 2022, compared to JD15 million at the end of 2018.
It is noteworthy that the Central Bank of Jordan recently issued commission instructions to microfinance companies, according to the Official Gazette.
