Amman-Aqaba train project is feasible project, says ex-minister
Former Minister of Transport, Dr. Lina Shabib, said that the implementation of Amman-Aqaba train project from a technical and engineering point of view is definitely a feasible project.
Shabib told Ammon that the biggest challenge facing the Amman-Aqaba train project, in her point of view, is the availability of the financial capacity for implementation.
The presence of trains in Jordan began in 1908, and in 2023 there must be a modern train that keeps pace with commercial and economic development, she added.
Shabib stressed that the government must bear the cost of this project, and the need for a serious and real government endeavor to market this project and take advantage of Jordan's distinctive geographical location, especially since the train can be exploited by linking the Gulf countries and some neighboring countries through Jordan.
The topographical nature of the Aqaba governorate may constitute a difficulty in implementing the project, especially in the area of steep slope, according to Shabib, noting that this difficulty can be overcome with a number of solutions with different costs.
The implementation of a train and railway project between Amman and Aqaba will provide large and new job opportunities, she noted.
