Energy ministry signs MoU with private firm for phosphate exploration
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed a memorandum of understanding with the Arab Mining Company on Monday to conduct an exploration for phosphates in the Risha region located on the Kingdom's eastern borders.
The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Mining Company, Muhammad Shehi.
According to the minister's press statement, the memorandum spans 12 months and allows the company to conduct phosphate exploration in a sprawling area of around 305 square kilometers. The exploration plan includes conducting geological studies and drilling a network of exploratory wells.
He made it clear that the memorandum marks a groundbreaking milestone for the utilization of phosphate ores in the eastern region of the Kingdom. He emphasized that exporting the product in its raw form would not be permitted and instead, it would be utilized in various manufacturing industries to extract the maximum benefit from this significant national project.
Shehhi, on his part, stated that the company intends to set up specialized factories to utilize the ore and produce a range of fertilizer products, including phosphoric acid, once the stage of phosphate exploration in the region is completed.
He said that sealing the deal with the Ministry today to mine the phosphate ore in the Risha area is a significant milestone for the Arab Mining Company. This accomplishment adds to the success stories the company has achieved throughout the Arab world, he added.
