Jordan takes part in int'l conference to combat corruption
A Jordanian parliamentary delegation participated on Thursday in a conference in Qatar on the 'United Nations Convention against Corruption of 2003.'
Tawfiq al-Maraiah, who headed the delegation, stressed the importance of combating corruption and promoting the values of integrity in society, saying: 'We are looking to reach a stage in which the citizen is assured that public money is safeguarded, justice is accomplished, and equality and transparency are achieved in all fields.'
He pointed to His Majesty King Abdullah II's firm belief that the rule of law is the basis for combating corruption, adding that corruption is a serious threat to societies and economies. He stressed the commitment of the Lower House of Parliament to work tirelessly to combat corruption and amend and improve laws.
During a meeting with the heads of delegations participating in the conference, he highlighted Jordan's efforts in combating corruption by enforcing relevant legislation and laws.
