Princess Dana Firas opens "photo exhibition" at Jordan Museum
HRH Princess Dana Firas, President of Petra National Trust (PNT), and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage, sponsored the opening of a photo exhibition entitled '50 Years of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Convention - Preserving the Past for the Present and the Future'.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition, which was held at the Jordan Museum, on Monday, was attended by the Saudi ambassador to Amman, Nayef bin Bandar Al-Sudairy, the Director General of the Department of Antiquities, Dr. Fadi Balawi, the Director General of the Tourism Promotion Authority, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, the UNESCO representative to Jordan, Min Jeong Kim,and the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, Dr. Suleiman Al-Farajat, in addition to representatives of international organizations.
The 5 days exhibition, which is organized by UNESCO and the Department of Antiquities, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Convention, which seeks to identify, protect and preserve cultural and natural heritage sites around the world.
Ratified by 194 countries, including Jordan, this agreement is one of the most widely recognized international agreements.
In her speech, HRH Princess Dana Firas emphasized the importance of understanding the value of the World Heritage Convention, not only to the international community, but also to Jordan, stressing the importance of preserving Jordan's rich cultural heritage.
She pointed to the link between world heritage and tourism, indicating the need to preserve these sites for the sake of all and future generations.
For his part, Dr. Balawi stressed the importance of the UNESCO Convention on the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in promoting the preservation of Jordanian heritage sites.
In turn, the UNESCO representative in Jordan, Min Jeong Kim, stated that the aim of the exhibition is to highlight the six unique and wonderful World Heritage Sites in Jordan, and to raise awareness of the need to protect them as well as thousands of other heritage sites in the country, not only for current generations but for future generations as well.
The photo exhibition will continue to be open to all until November 26 at the Jordan Museum, during the official working hours of the museum.
