Huneifat meets Sudanese delegation to follow up on sheep shipment
Minister of Agriculture Khalid Huneifat on Tuesday met with the Sudanese delegation following the first shipment of live Sudanese sheep that arrived on Monday.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to provide quality Sudanese meat to the people in Jordan. After evaluating the epidemiological situation through the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), visiting supplier countries and ensuring their implementation of Jordanian requirements for slaughterhouses, the ministry decided to open the door to importing meat and livestock, he said. Since the beginning of 2022, Jordanian sheep exports have reached 350,000 heads, and it is expected to exceed 600,000 by the end of the year, he added.
Huneifat indicated that about 800,000 local and imported heads were provided, exceeding the demand in local markets, which ranges between 600,000 to 650,000 heads. The guest delegation expressed appreciation towards Jordan’s cooperation, which reflects the distinguished Jordanian-Sudanese relations.
