Jordan pledges full support for Palestinian social affairs ministry
Social Development Minister Ayman Mufleh Wednesday said his ministry is prepared to 'place its capabilities and relations at the disposal of the Palestinians.'
Mufleh pledged Jordan's full support for the Palestinian Ministry of Social Affairs in a meeting with his Palestinian his counterpart, Ahmed Majdalani, and representatives of UN agencies, in Amman for a discussion on further cooperation.
He added that it important that the two ministries exchange experiences in the field of social protection, adding that the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) is willing to receive Palestinian delegations to share wit them the Jordanian experience in the social protection sector.
For his part, Majdalani expressed his happiness to learn about the Jordanian experience in social care and protection, as well as economic empowerment. He lauded Jordan's support for the Palestinian people, extending an invitation to Mufleh to visit Palestine and learn about the Palestinian experience in the field of social work.
Majdalani noted that the Palestinian Social Affairs Ministry did not focus on providing aid as much as it focused on economic empowerment through the shift from relief to development.
Country Director for the World Food Programme (WFP) in Jordan Alberto Correa Mendes said Jordan has become a 'regional leader' in the field of social protection, citing the success of the 'Takaful' programme of the National Aid Fund in 2020 and winning the Arab Government Excellence Award.
He highlighted the importance of social protection under the emerging international challenges, especially climate change and rising food prices.
For her part, UNICEF County Representative in Jordan Tanya Chapuisat said the UN agency is committed to supporting the exchange of experiences between Jordan and Palestine in the field of social protection.
