Germany and Jordan: Building bridges for skilled workers
In a two-day conference on May 11th and 12th, the Goethe-Institut offers a platform in Amman for main stakeholders from Germany and Jordan to speak about opportunities for Jordanian skilled workers in the German labor market and the necessary requirements for them.
ADRESSING NEEDS IN BOTH GERMANY AND JORDAN Many well-educated Jordanians seek job opportunities outside of Jordan. The German labor market is facing a shortage of skilled workers in some sectors. Two needs that may fit together perfectly. But what are the processes and requirements that lead to successful matchings? How can German and Jordanian public and private organizations work together to create such opportunities?
Representatives of Jordanian associations like the Jordan Engineering Association or the Jordan Medical Association, universities and vocational training centers as well as the Ministry of Labour meet with representatives of the German Federal Employment Agency, the German Embassy in Amman, the GIZ as well as German companies and sector associations.
It is the first time these different stakeholders meet and get to know each other in person. They were invited to present their interests as well as their respective questions. The platform initiated by the Goethe-Institut aims at strengthening the network between them.
GERMAN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY IS ESSENTIAL
Criteria for successful job application in Germany are a relevant education, proficiency of the German language and previous working experience.
The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. It promotes knowledge of the German language and fosters international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive image of Germany by providing information about cultural, social and political life in our country. Our cultural and educational programs promote intercultural dialogue and enable cultural participation. They strengthen the development of civil society structures and promote worldwide mobility. “The Goethe-Instituts world-wide have been the first point of contact with Germany for many people for almost seventy years – also recently in the field of skilled labor” explains Laura Hartz, the Director of the Goethe-Institute in Jordan.
The aim of this conference is to create a space for transparency and possible synergies to pave the way for future collaboration resulting in successful and sustainable projects.
