China: Thousands of medics rush to aid Shanghai in COVID-19 response
Around 10,000 medics have rushed to China's business hub Shanghai to aid the megacity's fight against the resurging COVID-19, the country's medical authorities announced on Monday.
Thousands of medics arrived in the city, which has a population of 25 million, departing from provincial-level regions such as Tianjin, Hubei, Shandong and Jiangxi, it added.
'Some of the teams had been to Wuhan, Hubei Province, or designated hospitals for COVID-19 control in Tianjin. They are also experienced,' said Wang Zengguang, head of a medical team from Tianjin Medical University General Hospital.
Shanghai recorded 425 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 8,581 new asymptomatic cases on Sunday following citywide antigen testing.
