Industry Ministry intensifies crackdown on defence order breakers
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply is stepping up inspection tours to enforce Covid-related defence orders at commercial centres over the Eid Al Adha Holidays, including wearing masks, physical distancing and avoiding overcrowding.
The ministry said in a report Saturday that 22 individuals were ticketed for not wearing a mask and 4 stores were fined and one was shut down for flouting the defence orders during visits by ministry personnel to 472 establishments.
It also said that 20 shops were found in breach of ministry regulations, including failure to declare fixed prices and 2 for price gouging of basic food commodities.
The report said that the inspection tours by ministry crews continued into the late night hours due to a growing number of shoppers ahead of the Eid Al Adha Holidays.
