Mining comprises about 20 percent of Jordan's overall exports and 7.7 percent of its GDP, Jordan's energy minister said Monday.
In a visit to the Arab Mining Company (AMC), Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati emphasised the important role of the AMC in bolstering mining investments in Jordan and its effort to make Jordan a regional hub for research and training on mining.
Zawati urged the AMC to leverage Jordan's investment opportunities in mining announced by the Ministry back in 2020.
She said Jordan is keen to open channels of cooperation with the AMC in the field of mining and lauded the Company for its interest in mining research. She highlighted the Ministry seeks cooperation with the AMC and can offer a range of information the Company can use in research.
It also expressed support for the Company's readiness to provide training on mining and make Jordan a regional hub for that end.
Chairman of the AMC Board Mohammed Shehhi said the Minister's visit to the Company HQ is 'important' to enhance the AMC-Jordan partnership in mining, expressing keenness to explore further investment opportunities in the kingdom.
The Council of Arab Economic Unity decided in 1974 to establish the Amman-based AMC.
