Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and his U.S. counterpart Antony Blinken Wednesday held talks on the Mideast peace process and on cementing the Jordan-U.S. ties.
Safadi and Blinken emphasized the importance of upholding the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and preventing escalation.
Safadi praised the U.S. for its support for the Kingdom in weathering the economic challenges facing the country, as the two top diplomats discussed further means to bolster the cooperation and 'strategic ties' between the two countries.
Safadi also commended the U.S. for its part in bringing an end to the flare-up in the Palestinian territories and hammering out a ceasefire.
The meeting underscored the importance of rebuilding the besieged exclave of Gaza and providing its population with immediate humanitarian aid, emphasizing the need that any such efforts should be coordinated with the Palestinian National Authority (PA), the UN, Egypt and other partners.
Safadi, who is also the deputy prime minister, highlighted the 'importance' of the Joe Biden Administration's 'positive' positions and decisions in support of the two-state solution and in upholding the historical status quo in occupied Jerusalem.
He also commended the U.S. for rejecting the Israeli unilateral decisions in Jerusalem, including forced displacement of families and settlement expansion, emphasizing that they undermine peace.
He also highlighted the significance of the U.S. decision to reopen its consulate in East Jerusalem and resume financial support for the PA and UNRWA.
In turn, Blinken praised Jordan for its part in realizing peace and stability, underscoring the 'continued' coordination and cooperation in bringing an end to the flare-up in the Palestinian territories and hammering out a ceasefire.
