Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Wissam Tahtamouni, said the maritime transport traffic, through the Aqaba- Nuweiba crossing, has resumed as prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, however health protocols are implemented.

In a press statement to 'Petra,' on Sunday, Tahtamouni said passenger traffic in both directions has resumed after more than a year of Covid-19-related restrictions imposed to prevent the virus spread.

The maritime route that connects Jordan's Aqaba port with Egypt's Nuweiba has offered services related freight traffic and the flow of goods for months in both directions, Tahtamouni pointed out.

The travel, freight movement has returned to normal, but with the health protocols implemented at the two countries' border crossings for passengers, including PCR testing, among other measures, according to Tahtamouni.

The crossing, the official said, has operated over the last period to offer services to the passenger movement leaving the Kingdom to Egypt.
