C-RAM defence system deployed at US embassy in Baghdad
The US embassy in the heavily-fortified Green Zone in Baghdad deployed the counter-rocket, artillery and mortar (C-RAM) system in anticipation of new attacks, according to an Iraqi security source.
It said that residents of areas near the green zone in central Baghdad heard bursts of shots, loud explosions and sirens as the system was being tested at the mission, which was a target of rocket attacks in recent years.
The C-RAM defence system can intercept missiles, bombs and mortars and detonate them in the air before reaching their target.
