Jordanian-Ukrainian business forum discusses economic cooperation
A business forum organized Tuesday by the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA), in cooperation with the Ukrainian-Arab Business Council, and the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (ULIE), discussed ways to strengthen economic links and cooperation between Jordan and Ukraine.
The online tackled prospects for investment opportunities available in Jordan and Ukraine, and the possibility of establishing joint projects, in addition to increasing the two-way trade exchange.
The JBA and the ULIE signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance and develop economic, trade and investment relations and networking between businessmen in the two countries.
Acting President of the Jordan Investment Commission Fareedon Hartoqa said the forum was an opportunity to shed light on the opportunities and potential which the two countries have, stressing that the Kingdom is looking forward to closer cooperation with Ukraine.
He pointed out that the two countries enjoy distinguished relations, but the volume of trade exchange is still below the required level, as Jordanian exports to Ukraine in 2019 amounted to approximately $14 million while imports from Ukraine hit $184 million.
Hartoqa noted that the volume of ventures which benefited from the investment law increased by 26.4 percent despite the ramifications of the coronavirus crisis, indicating a total of 376 new projects in the past year at a value of $870 million.
He revealed that the investment commission had prepared a profile of 80 promising investment opportunities at a potential value of about $4.6 billion.
In turn, Anatoliy Kinakh, President of the ULIE, underlined the need to continue holding meetings between businessmen from both countries to develop bilateral economic relations, pointing out that there are many promising opportunities in his country in the fields of food industries.
