ILO, AMIDEAST launch initiative to enhance access to formal labor market
The International Labour Organization (ILO), in partnership with AMIDEAST Jordan, launched the 'Training-of-Trainers Programme for Life and Employability Skills' to provide training and skill development to Career Guidance Counsellors and enable them to transfer this advanced knowledge to Jordanian and Syrian job seekers.
In a statement on Monday, the ILO said that this programme is part of a wider effort to support increased economic opportunities and employment creation in Jordan for refugees and host communities in accordance with the ILO’s principles of decent work.
The program is funded by the US Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) through the project 'Formalizing Access to the Legal Labour Market for Refugees and Host Communities in Jordan'.
ILO Coordinator to the Crisis Response Thair Al Shraideh said this effort builds on a series of projects that focus on employment-driven interventions to create an enabling environment for decent work.
'It is important now more than ever to equip job seekers with crucial skills that will enhance the opportunities of Jordanians and Syrian refugees for sustainable jobs, while also facilitating the integration of refugees into the formal Jordanian labour market in order to achieve self-sustainability and reduce dependence on assistance,' he said.
As part of the initiative, coaching and guidance will be provided to trainers working in ILO’s Employment Centres across the kingdom, as well as trainers from various government partners such as the Ministry of Labour, the Vocational Training Corporation, National for Employment & Training, the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, and the Technical and Vocational Skills Development Commission.
The counsellors will complete intensive training at AMIDEAST. After the conclusion of the TOT, the counsellors will co-deliver a peer-guided training with the ILO Career Counsellors and AMIDEAST trainers in 13 different locations across Jordan for hundreds of Jordanian and Syrian job seekers in governorates and refugee camps.
AMIDEAST/Jordan’s Country Director, Ms. Nour Alrasheed emphasized the importance of this project in line with ILO’s efforts to alleviate the economic and market impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on jobs and growth prospects across Jordan, 'impactful training in programs like this help create a path for jobseekers to find sustainable employment in sectors that are recovering and growing in Jordan.'
