Industry sector leader urges caution over reintroduction of lockdowns
President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry Fathi Jaghbir on Monday called on the government for 'prudence' before re-imposing lockdowns or tightening pandemic-related measures, such as blanket Friday curfews and limiting night mobility.
While acknowledging the 'sensitivity' of the current epidemiological situation in the Kingdom following an uptick in infections, he warned that any new measures 'will put the economy and productivity on the line'.
'The private sector is no longer able to withstand more closures,' he added in a statement.
Jaghbir called on the government to tighten preventive measures to ensure adherence to public safety protocols, indicating that following safety and social distancing guidelines is 'far better than closures.'
