Jordan participates in meetings of UNEP for West Asia
The Ministry of Environment represented Jordan at the virtual meeting held by the Regional Office of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP ) for West Asia, held on Monday and Tuesday, in preparation for the fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, which will be held virtually on February 22 and 23.
Participants were briefed on the United Nations Environment Assembly roadmap and the UNEP medium-term strategy for 2022-2025.
Participants in the meeting discussed environmental challenges in the region and priority regional actions to address them.
The participating Jordanian delegation called for supporting regional priorities, especially with regard to the themes of climate action, reducing pollution and improving waste management.
Director of the UNEP Regional Office, Sami Dimassi, indicated that the development of the strategy was based on the latest information confirming that the simultaneous occurrence of climate change, the disturbance of the balance of nature and the increase in the percentage of pollution will negatively affect the world's ability to eliminate or reduce poverty.
