McDonald's worker explains why they take your picture at the drive-thru
McDonald's employee Katie took to TikTok to explain why they take your picture when you're making your order at the drive-thru - and the secret is blowing everyone's minds.
When you go through a McDonald's drive-thru, you might be wondering how employees know which order belongs to which car.
With multiple lanes to keep an eye on, you'd expect staff to occasionally mix up your food with somebody else's.
But now, a worker has revealed the secret behind the smooth running of the operation, and it's blowing customers' minds.
Katie, known as @katieeclarkee on TikTok, explained that the fast-food restaurant has cameras installed around the drive-thru area.
In a video, which has been viewed more than five million times on the social media platform, Katie can be seen showing viewers the drive-thru camera during her shift.
'Ever wondered how McDonald's know whose car is whose?'
'There is a camera and it takes a picture of you and your car,' she said.
The 17-year-old explained that the orders are handed to the correct customer thanks to a handy camera.
After an order is placed, a camera takes a snap of the car, linking it to the order.
So the worker just has to match the picture with the car in front of them.
She later joked: 'So maybe don’t pick your nose when you order … because we see it and we judge you.'
Since being posted, the video which is captioned 'I get asked this all the time', has received almost 170,000 likes and more than 3,200 comments from stunned customers.
One said: 'Wow really? I had no idea there were cameras.'
Another said: 'Ayo that's some new new. We didn't have that when I worked there last year.'
A third said: 'Wait y'all see us?'
Fellow employees also revealed that they can hear everything that goes on inside the customers' car from the moment it pulls up and activates the sensor, which then triggers their headset to turn on.
'I'm waiting for the day they realise we hear them the moment they pull up, to the moment they leave the speaker box,' the worker said.
But one member of staff admitted the McDonald's he works at 'is not that advanced', and that 'we just have to figure it out.'
