GPS devices mandatory for public vehicles — Prime Ministry circular
The Transport Ministry, in cooperation with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Department (DVLD), has commenced, with the start of the year, the implementation of the circular made by the Prime Ministry, which states that no public sector vehicle will be licensed without a GPS tracking device.
The ministry’s secretary general, Wissam Tahtamouni, said that justified exceptions will be granted while implementing the circular.
The tracking system is aimed to cover all government vehicles and machineries, she said, noting that the measure was developed in order to cut fuel and maintenance costs, and improve control of public vehicles to reduce traffic offences.
